Student Wellbeing

At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.

How we support student wellbeing

Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.

We do this through:

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and the Positive Pieces Program.

At Lindfield Public School, our students thrive in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment. Our student wellbeing policy includes the latest in research-based approaches including Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and the Positive Pieces Program.

Our students 'ROAR' within a Safe school environment.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) provides our students and staff with a positive and proactive system for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviours. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.

PBL replaces ‘rules’ with ‘expectations’. These expectations are applied across all school environments. Lindfield Public School has the following school-wide expectations described through the acronym ROAR, in which students strive to be: Respectful, Organised, Aspirational and Responsible. We say that ‘students ROAR within a Safe school environment’. Through explicit instruction, students gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of expected behaviours, informing their decision making and subsequent actions. ROAR cards are presented to students regularly for displaying school expectations and form an integral part of our broader school merit system.

Positive Pieces Program

Positive Pieces is an evidence-based program that helps students explore and develop key social and emotional learning outcomes. The program fosters school success, a sense of connectedness and a safe, respectful climate. Students’ wellbeing is enhanced by engaging with topics such as empathy, building and maintaining healthy relationships and making responsible, caring decisions.

Happy, Safe and Inclusive Playgrounds

Our students love spending time with their friends in a range of safe and inviting play spaces. These include a large, grassed oval with recently upgraded playground equipment and welcoming Yarning Circle (Palm), a versatile Multipurpose Court and the Ginkgo playground, which provides plenty of shade over a soft, artificial surface. These varied areas create fun and inclusive environments for all children to enjoy active play during the school day.

The Jacaranda Room is a popular indoor option for students who prefer a quiet environment at lunchtime, offering board games, craft and drawing activities. This space was named with input from students who were inspired by the large Jacaranda tree outside the room.

Playmates Program

At Lindfield Public School the transition to ‘big school’ is made just a little easier and a lot more fun with a program called Playmates. The program teams Kindergarten children up with Year 5 and 6 mentors in a daily playground orientation that has a range of benefits for all.
